"Reading the Riots"

30 researchers, 270 interviews and more than 2.5 million tweets: The study Reading the Riots aims to explain why the summer disturbances happened and whether they will occur again. The project was run jointly by the Guardian and the London School of Economics (LSE). The Guardian published many in-depth reports dealing with different issues including some sophisticated interactive data visualisations. Data journalist James Ball, member of the core research team, gives insights into the project, including both tools and results.
